Alison Elverd LLB BA
Alison commenced practising in 2005 and works in BSP Lawyers’ hospitality and commercial practice groups, particularly in relation to liquor licensing and hospitality issues and requirements.
Alison has worked on many applications before the VCGLR and has wide experience with hotel and club venues with gaming machines. She has conducted many applications involving hearings before the VCAT, and regularly manages the regulatory and compliance issues that are associated with licensed premises. Her most recent experience includes:
- Acting for clients in a number of seminal decisions in the gaming and planning jurisdictions including a recent, successful appeal against the VCGLR’s refusal to increase the number of gaming machines at the Braybrook Hotel. This decision made it clear that, with a properly crafted application, increases in gaming machine numbers are possible even in areas with extremely poor socio economic characteristics.
- Acting for clients in the licensing of a number of large precincts, including new retail centre developments incorporating a number of licensed premises within food courts or entertainment precincts. These developments often involve multiple licensees, long lead times, unusual conditions and a significant amount of liaison with the VCGLR to achieve outcomes that work for both the developer and ultimate tenants of such developments
Alison also has experience in general commercial and property work, and has an established practice in the planning area.
