Update: Lockdown in City of LaTrobe, Phasing Out of Disaster Payments

The Victorian Government yesterday announced a snap lockdown for the City of LaTrobe. A press statement can be found here.

From 11:59pm on Tuesday 28 September, restrictions in the City of LaTrobe will be the same as those in metropolitan Melbourne, excluding the curfew.

Upcoming Changes to Disaster Payments for Individuals

The Federal Government has also announced a phasing out of COVID-19 disaster payments as vaccination targets are reached.

When 70% of the eligible population in a state or territory is fully vaccinated, individuals will need to reapply for the disaster payment, instead of receiving it automatically.

When 80% of the eligible population in a state or territory is fully vaccinated, the payment will be phased out entirely within two weeks.

In the first week after a state or territory reaches the 80% target, the payment will drop to a flat rate of $450 for anyone who has lost more than eight hours of work a week. This is a change from the current payments of $450 for those who have lost between 8 and 20 hours of work a week and $750 for those who have lost above 20 hours of work a week. The supplement for people already receiving welfare payments will drop from $200 a week to $100 a week.

In the second week, the payment will decrease again to $320 for those who have lost more than 8 hours of work a week. People receiving welfare payments will no longer receive disaster payments. The Federal Government is yet to announce what changes there will be to business support.
