The Victorian Government announced on Sunday a new Regional Tourism Support Package to support tourism operators in regional Victoria who have been affected by restrictions in response to the current COVID-19 outbreak. This support package will provide the following types of support:
- Regional Travel Voucher Scheme
The Victorian Government has announced a further 80,000 travel vouchers valued at $200 each, to support tourism in regional Victoria. Vouchers will be provided to Victorians who spend at least $400 over two nights holidaying anywhere in regional Victoria as a means to incentivise expenditure in regional Victoria.
The release date for the vouchers and travel windows have yet to be announced, and information on how to apply will be available soon.
2. Business Costs Assistance Program Round Two Tourism Supplement
The support package will provide accommodation, attraction and experience providers with grant top-ups under Round 2 of the Business Costs Assistance Program. Tourism businesses eligible for a $2,500 grant under that program (as announced last week) will receive a top-up payment of $4,500 and those eligible for a $5,000 grant payment will receive a $2,000 top up, with all eligible businesses receiving a total payment of $7,000 under the program.
Businesses do not need to apply if they have already submitted a claim for Round 2 of the Business Costs Assistance Program. Payments will be made automatically.
Businesses that have previously applied under the Licensed Venue Hospitality Fund may also be eligible for these additional payments.
Businesses are eligible for up to $7,000 in payments under all programs. Full eligibility criteria will be released soon.
3. Alpine Support Program
Alpine businesses will receive up to $15,000 to help them provide a COVIDSafe ski season. This includes hire outlets, shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes and adventure companies at Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Mt Stirling, Lake Mountain, Mt Baw Baw and Dinner Plain.
Off-mountain alpine related businesses such as equipment hire, transport companies and tour providers may be eligible for $5,000 grants.
Guidelines are currently being developed and more information will be available soon. Applications for the Alpine Support Program will open soon on Business Victoria’s website.
